Geographic Information System (GIS) maps are very powerful, allowing you to interact with the system to create your own map.
Select a tool from the toolbar and apply it to the map.
Top tips:
Click on any point to zoom in by 50% and centre the map around this point.
Click on any point to zoom out by 50% and centre the map around this point.
Zooms in to the box area you draw on the map. To draw a box, click and hold whilst you drag open a box shape, then release.
Opens a new window with all available layers for this National Park. To add or remove layers, use the checkboxes.
Tip: When you add a layer, it becomes visible in your map legend and in the 'search in layer' dropdown box.
Will clear all the extra layers you have added to your map.
Shows all available information for any point you click on your map, for all the layers you currently have selected.
Centres your map around any point Will move your map so its centre is where you click.
Measures the distance between any two points on your map. Click your first point and then hold and drag to your second point, then release to show a line of your measurement. The distance will appears in a pop-up box.
Searches within a radius of your chosen distance from one central point on your map. Select the tool and a pop-up box appears. Type in your distance then click the 'search' button. The pop-up box closes. Click a point on your map to be the centre of your search.The radius search will search by default on the 'places' layer. To search another layer, select from the 'search in layer' dropdown in the top right of the page.
Print a copy of your map as it currently looks on the screen.
The search box allows you to search for any feature on any layers selected on your map.
Type what you're searching for in the search input box, for example the name of a town or river, then select the layer to search from the 'search in layer' dropdown.
To search more layers, click on the 'choose layers' button, and tick extra layers to appear on your map. These layers will appear in your map legend and in the 'search in layer' dropdown.
The map returns search results in three ways:
Shows the approximate distance on your map in relation to the width of the scale bar. As the zoom level of your map changes, so does this distance. To change the units of the scale bar, select a new unit from the scale bar dropdown box.
Changes the zoom level of the map to the scale chosen in the dropdown box.
